Hunter Biden has announced his entry into the cryptocurrency market by launching a meme coin called $LAPTOP, which is satirizing the infamous laptop scandal from 2020. The son of former President Joe Biden, 56, promoted his new crypto asset on X (formerly Twitter) with a brief teaser video referencing conservative broadcasters and Republican lawmakers.

The leaked emails from Hunter's laptop, which were published by The New York Post in October 2020, showed his foreign business dealings and personal photos of his then-heavy drug use. These revelations inspired conspiracy theories and hysteria on the right, but also jokes on social media.

$LAPTOP will debut on Coinbase's blockchain network Base on Wednesday, the same day as President Donald Trump's midterms convention in Dallas, Texas. One billion coins will be supplied within two years, with 20 percent sent to those who lost money investing in the $TRUMP coin and subscribers to Hunter's Substack newsletter.
