Hunter Biden Launches Memecoin LAPTOP Amid Criticism of Trump's Crypto Ventures
Hunter Biden's new memecoin, LAPTOP, is set to launch on Coinbase's Base network on September 9th. The token will have a supply of 1 billion units and will be available to traders who lost money on TRUMP, another memecoin associated with Donald Trump.
The project's name references the laptop that Hunter Biden left at a Delaware repair shop in 2019, which became a major controversy ahead of the 2020 presidential election. The founding team, including Hunter Biden, has been allocated 30% of LAPTOP's supply, with those tokens locked for six months before vesting over two years.
The project also includes a series of political and cultural conditions that could result in tokens being permanently removed from circulation, such as Democrats winning the 2028 presidential election or Bitcoin reaching another record high. If these conditions are met, the corresponding tokens will be burned, while others can be directed to charity.
Biden's criticism of Trump's use of crypto for personal gain now faces its own test with the launch of LAPTOP. Biden has accused the Trump family of exploiting crypto for private enrichment and has emerged as an enthusiastic supporter of blockchain technology himself.
