Hunter Biden Taps into Cryptocurrency Controversy with LAPTOP Memecoin Launch
Hunter Biden's foray into crypto has drawn attention after The Wall Street Journal reported that he plans to launch a memecoin called LAPTOP on September 9. The token, which will debut on Coinbase's Base network, references the laptop controversy from his father's 2020 election campaign.
The project puts Biden's political notoriety at its center, with the name referencing the laptop he left at a Delaware repair shop in 2019. Founders, including Biden, have been allocated 30% of LAPTOP's supply, with those tokens locked for six months before vesting over the following two years.
Biden has also reserved 20% of the supply for airdrops to his Substack subscribers and wallets that lost money holding TRUMP memecoin. Additionally, up to 30% is linked to various political, cultural, and crypto outcomes that could result in tokens being permanently removed from circulation.
