Hunter Biden, son of former US President Joe Biden, is launching a meme coin called $LAPTOP. The cryptocurrency will be traded on Base, a global platform built by Coinbase, starting September 9th.

The name 'Laptop' references the controversy surrounding Hunter's personal laptop in 2020 and since then. Meme coins are known to surge in price due to social media hype but often lack intrinsic value. Other politicians, including former President Trump, have launched their own meme coins with varying degrees of success.

The one billion tokens issued for $LAPTOP will be distributed among the founders, including Hunter Biden himself, as well as crypto wallets that lost money on his coin and subscribers to his Substack newsletter. Andrew Callaghan's company claims they have 'nothing to do' with $LAPTOP, stating they only provide a mailing list for Hunter to expand his audience.
