Hunter Biden Unveils LAPTOP Crypto Token Amid Financial Troubles
Hunter Biden is launching his own cryptocurrency token called LAPTOP, named after the infamous computer at the center of one of the biggest political controversies of recent years. The move comes after months of appearances by Biden on various podcasts and YouTube channels that span a wide portion of the political spectrum.
Biden's 'redemption tour' has been a topic of discussion, with him speaking about his history of addiction, recovery, and the laptop controversy. He has also had conversations with those who have criticized him in the past, including Candace Owens, Tucker Carlson, and Nick Fuentes.
The LAPTOP token is set to launch on Coinbase's Base blockchain with a total supply of 1 billion tokens. 30% of the total supply is reserved for Biden and his co-founders, which will be locked for the first six months after launch. The project also has provisions that could result in up to 30% of the supply being burned if certain events occur, including a Democratic presidential victory in 2028 or Bitcoin reaching a new all-time high.
Some critics have raised concerns about the charitable component of the project, which is a familiar way for celebrities to soften the optics of working with speculative or dubious crypto projects. Others have wondered if the memecoin is seen as a solution to Biden's financial troubles, as he has said he has roughly $14 million to $15 million in debt and 'no idea' how he would pay it off.
YouTube-based crypto journalist Coffeezilla was direct with his reaction, warning people not to buy the token. 'After months of calling out Trump corruption, Hunter Biden is launching his own shitcoin called LAPTOP. Do not buy it,' he wrote on X.
