Hunter Biden Unveils Laptop Memecoin Amid Regulator Scrutiny
Hunter Biden is preparing to launch a new memecoin called LAPTOP, which takes its name from the infamous laptop controversy surrounding his family during the 2020 election cycle. The token's ticker is $LAPTOP, and it is scheduled to launch on Wednesday. According to The Wall Street Journal, 20% of the one-billion token supply will be directed to substack subscribers, mailing-list members, and investors in Official Trump (TRUMP).
The LAPTOP founders will hold 30% of the token supply and can burn up to 30% depending on future conditions, including a Democrat winning the presidency in 2028, Bitcoin reaching a new all-time high, or LAPTOP's fully diluted value exceeding TRUMP. This move comes amid renewed congressional momentum toward the CLARITY Act, with a Senate cloture vote set for Sept. 15.
Hunter Biden's announcement has sparked attention to how memecoins tied to major political figures and narratives can become a stress test for regulators. The launch also highlights the contrast between Hunter Biden's public rhetoric on crypto and blockchain, which includes criticizing the Trump family's involvement with World Liberty Financial.
