Hunter Biden's new meme coin, LAPTOP, has launched on Base, a layer-2 network built by Coinbase. The token is named after the personal computer that gained notoriety in 2020 due to its contents being published before the presidential election.

LAPTOP is issued on Base and settles transactions on a separate chain before posting them back to Ethereum, making fees cheaper and confirmations faster than transacting directly on Ethereum. The coin has no claim on revenue, assets, or governance, relying solely on attention for its value.

Biden is part of the founding team but not an endorser lending his name, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal. The team declined to comment. The supply is divided into 1 billion tokens: 30% for founders, locked for six months and vesting in full after two years; 20% for airdrops distributed in two batches to specified wallets; 30% tied to the outcome of 30 preset events that may trigger a burn; and 20% covering charity, liquidity, and foundation costs.
