Hunter Biden's LAPTOP Memecoin Implodes in Debut
Hunter Biden's new memecoin, LAPTOP, launched on the Base network on September 9. The token quickly attracted speculative buying and its price surged from the opening level to roughly $200 within minutes.
However, this rapid rise was short-lived as the price collapsed below $5 within about an hour, resulting in a 97.8% plunge within the first hour of trading.
The extreme volatility highlighted the risks of entering a thinly traded memecoin during its first minutes on the market. The token's implied valuation was supported by only a relatively small amount of liquidity, making its headline market capitalization a poor representation of the actual available capital.
Supply concentration added another layer of risk, with Bubblemaps CEO Nicolas Vaiman describing the token's supply as 'extremely concentrated.' This structure can leave a newly launched token particularly vulnerable when large holders begin selling.
