Hunter Biden's LAPTOP Token Ties Supply to Election Outcomes
Hunter Biden is launching a new cryptocurrency called LAPTOP on September 9 on Coinbase's Base network. The token will have a market cap of 1 billion tokens, with founders, including Biden himself, holding 30% locked for six months and then vesting over roughly two years.
A fifth of the supply will be airdropped to nearly a million wallets that lost money on Trump's own TRUMP coin, which has fallen 97% from its January 2025 peak of $75.35 to trade around $1.68 today.
The mechanics of LAPTOP are designed to tie 30% of the supply to a burn mechanism triggered by future political and market events: a Democratic win in the 2028 presidential election, a new Bitcoin all-time high, or LAPTOP's market cap overtaking TRUMP's. If none of these conditions are met, the tokens will reportedly go to charity instead.
The move is seen as a way for Biden to troll his critics and opponents, but some see it as a clever marketing strategy that could poach disappointed buyers from rival tokens.
