Hunter Biden's Memecoin Launch Sparks Chaos in Crypto Markets
Hunter Biden's new memecoin, LAPTOP, is set to launch on September 9th. The token will deploy on Coinbase's Base network and has a total supply of 1 billion tokens.
The distribution plan for the token leans heavily on political signaling rather than traditional crypto incentives. Twenty percent of the supply is reserved for airdrops across two rounds, including wallets that lost money holding TRUMP, the memecoin launched under President Trump's name.
In addition to the airdrop, the founding team controls 30% of the supply, locked for six months and released gradually over the following two years. Up to 30% more of the supply could be burned based on predetermined events, including Bitcoin setting a new all-time high or LAPTOP's fully diluted valuation surpassing TRUMP's market value.
The launch has already spawned over a dozen copycat tokens across various networks, with at least 14 distinct tokens trading a combined $6.9 million in under an hour. The largest token, launched on Robinhood Chain, carried a $535,206 fully diluted valuation and drew $5.43 million in volume across nearly 32,000 trades.
