HYPE Drops by 8% Amid Unstake Wave
HYPE, the token of Hyperliquid, fell by about 8% on July 22 after several big trading firms lined up nearly $150 million for withdrawal. The drop was triggered by a wave of unstaking by Multicoin Capital, Galaxy Digital, and Selini Capital, which together queued more than $150 million in HYPE.
According to Block Liquidity, Multicoin Capital has staked $138.78 million in HYPE, with about 83% waiting to be withdrawn, or around $116 million. Selini Capital lined up $4.4 million and Galaxy Digital queued $29.4 million.
The unstaking of such a large amount of tokens may pour close to $150 million into the token's tradable supply within five to seven days, nearly doubling HYPE's recent spot activity. Block Liquidity clocked $72.8 million in HYPE spot volume across about 28 hours through the morning of July 22.
However, it is uncertain whether the firms will actually sell their tokens. Selini Capital may use its returned HYPE to offload it through an over-the-counter (OTC) desk after being part of a shuttered market, while Multicoin's plan may not involve selling at all, as they could be using some of the HYPE to bankroll a new venture.
