Hyperliquid Dominates Crypto Buyback Surge Amid Sustainability Concerns

Crypto buybacks have reached $638 million in revenue this year, with Hyperliquid leading the pack at $370 million. This represents a 17% increase from last year's total of $545 million and shows a growing trend towards token repurchases by project teams using their own revenues.

Hyperliquid dominates the market due to its strong trading fees generated towards recurring HYPE purchases, allowing for large-scale token repurchases. However, this concentration raises questions about the long-term sustainability of buyback programs, which rely on stable and recurring revenue rather than one-time draws from the treasury.

The ability to create such buybacks will depend on continued fee generation, and more platforms need to convert recurring income into continuous token demand for the adoption of buyback strategies. Currently, Hyperliquid's buyback yield is around 1.8% to 5.8%, which is comparable to staking yields seen on major networks.
