Hyperliquid Faces Regulation-Driven Centralization
Wintermute CEO Evgeny Gaevoy has expressed concerns about the long-term viability of Hyperliquid, citing U.S. regulation as a major obstacle.
Gaevoy stated that Hyperliquid will need to implement Know Your Customer (KYC) procedures to comply with U.S. laws, which would require the platform to become increasingly centralized to compete with traditional markets like CME and Nasdaq.
The introduction of KYC could change how users interact with Hyperliquid, as it may enhance security and legitimacy but also introduce privacy trade-offs.
Gaevoy's remarks highlight a broader tension in the crypto ecosystem: the trade-off between decentralization and regulatory compliance.
