Hyperliquid Soars on Trump's Onshoring Pledge
Hype around Hyperliquid has surged over 17% in the past 24 hours, reaching a high of $72 after President Trump confirmed that the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) is working to bring the decentralized exchange into the United States. This comes as no surprise, given that CFTC Chairman Michael Selig has already stated that regulators should expand existing rules to accommodate onchain platforms rather than have them operate offshore.
Trump's backing of Hyperliquid was made in the presence of some of its loudest critics, including executives from CME Group and ICE, who had been pressing regulators to scrutinize Hyperliquid over supposed price manipulation and sanctions exposure. Despite this opposition, access to the US market is a major advantage for Hyperliquid, which has struggled to gain traction despite controlling a significant share of perp volume.
The potential benefits of onshoring Hyperliquid are substantial, with the exchange set to tap into a vast pool of capital and customer base in the world's largest derivatives market. However, this also poses significant challenges for the platform, which will need to demonstrate its ability to operate within US regulations.
