Hyperliquid Speed Tests Institutional Trading Workflows to the Limit
Hyperliquid's rapid growth has exposed cracks in institutional trading workflows, with its lightning-fast speed proving incompatible with traditional manual approval processes.
The decentralized exchange (DEX) processed $200 billion in perpetual futures volume over the past 30 days, with open interest sitting at $11.5 billion, a 9.3% share of global perp markets, up from 6.9% in May, according to DeFiLlama.
Hyperliquid's one-block finality, processing trades, liquidations, and margin updates in just 0.07 seconds, is a major draw for institutions. However, this speed requires automated approval processes, which are not yet fully implemented by many institutions.
Custody providers like Fireblocks, BitGo, and Anchorage Digital have integrated support for Hyperliquid assets, including its native token HYPE, but institutions still face challenges in adapting their internal workflows to the platform's pace.
