Hyperliquid Surges 22% Amid US Treasury's Bond Market Move
A 22% price surge in Hyperliquid (HYPE) caught many investors off guard on Thursday, making it the top performer among top-ten leaders. The token ran from $58.52 to a high of $72.16 before closing at $71.39.
While Bitcoin gained 6.20% and Ethereum 9.51%, HYPE's move was nearly four times stronger. Analysts point out that the token has been trading like a technology stock, amplifying in liquidity-driven rallies and underperforming in risk-off situations.
The catalyst for this move can be attributed to the US Treasury's decision to double its buyback operations for long-dated government debt, starting September 9. This led to lower bond yields and a weakened dollar, prompting capital rotation back into risk assets.
