Hyperliquid Surges as Bitcoin Price Reaches New Heights
Bitcoin's price surge to nearly $80,000 dominated headlines this week, but beneath the surface, Hyperliquid was making waves. The platform processed over $633 billion in combined spot and perpetual futures volume in the first quarter of 2026, with a staggering $2.9 trillion in perpetual futures volume last year.
Hyperliquid's growth is significant because it allows traders to access perpetual futures through self-custody wallets, rather than relying on centralized exchanges. This shift has seen Coinbase International route trades through Hyperliquid instead of handling them internally.
Coinbase even added Hyperliquid perpetual futures to its Base App, giving users access to 290 markets with up to 50x margin. However, U.S. users are excluded from this feature due to regulatory concerns.
The intersection of politics and finance is evident as President Trump's comments on bringing Hyperliquid into the United States in a 'fully compliant and legal fashion' sent HYPE prices soaring.
