Hyperliquid Taps USDC Reserve Yield for HYPE Buybacks
Hyperliquid, one of the largest decentralized exchanges by trading volume, has introduced a new mechanism to generate additional buyback capital for its native token HYPE. The framework, called AQAv2, channels yield from Hyperliquid's roughly $5 billion in USDC reserves into open-market purchases of HYPE, which are then permanently burned.
The first actual payout under AQAv2 is scheduled for October 3, with subsequent distributions expected every 30 to 38 days. The program represents the protocol's second major source of buyback funding after trading fees.
AQAv2 was approved by Hyperliquid validators with 69.08% support, clearing the 66.67% threshold required for passage. Market estimates suggest the new mechanism could generate roughly $135 million to $160 million per year in additional buyback capital, based on current USDC balances above $5 billion and prevailing reserve yields near 3%.
