Hyperliquid Tops Crypto Trading Volume with Real-World Assets
Hyperliquid, a decentralized exchange (DEX), has achieved a milestone by surpassing its weekly cryptocurrency trading volume with real-world assets (RWAs). According to data from Ark Invest's Lorenzo Valente, RWA trading accounted for 54% of Hyperliquid's total volume over the past week. This marks the first time RWAs have exceeded crypto trading on the platform.
The growth in RWA trading is largely driven by the implementation of HIP-3, which introduced single-stock trading products allowing users to trade tokenized versions of traditional equities on-chain. Stock-based RWA volume now makes up 61% of total RWA activity on Hyperliquid, having outpaced index and commodity products since June.
This development signals a potential shift in the decentralized exchange landscape, with traders and institutions increasingly treating tokenized stocks and other real-world assets as viable trading instruments within DeFi protocols. If sustained, this trend could reshape how decentralized exchanges compete with traditional finance platforms, particularly in markets for equities and commodities.
