Hyperliquid Tumbles on Macro Fears Amid High Leverage
The cryptocurrency market experienced a broad risk-off swing due to macroeconomic concerns, causing Hyperliquid (HYPE) to drop 5.5% in a 24-hour period.
Hype is highly leveraged and its price was amplified by the recent unlock of 9.92 million HYPE tokens on September 6, which created a known supply overhang.
The move can be attributed to the broader market reaction to hotter U.S. inflation data, tighter central bank expectations, and rising bond yields, with Bitcoin down about 2% and Ethereum down about 2.2%
Structural buyers such as Hyperliquid Strategies Inc. (Nasdaq: PURR) provided support by buying an additional 365,000 HYPE tokens in the last 24 hours, bringing their two-week total to about 3.029 million HYPE acquired for roughly $252 million.
