Hyperliquid User Loses $550,000 to Phishing Website Promoted by Google Ad
A Hyperliquid user reportedly lost $550,000 in USDC after interacting with a phishing website promoted through a Google search advertisement. The incident was first reported by FlashRescue co-founder Darcy, who stated that the victim's funds were transferred to three addresses allegedly controlled by the attacker.
Google has suspended the advertiser connected to the reported campaign, and the company claims to have 'zero tolerance for scams.' According to Google's 2025 Ads Safety report, it blocked or removed more than 8.3 billion ads and suspended 24.9 million advertiser accounts last year, including 602 million advertisements and four million accounts associated with scams.
SEAL, a security group, tracked the wider campaign in April and reported blocking over 356 malicious advertising URLs within several weeks. The group advised crypto users to avoid accessing cryptocurrency applications through Google Search and instead use verified bookmarks.
