Hyperliquid's HYPE Token Soars Nearly 50% in August Amid Increased Trading Activity
Hyperliquid's momentum has strengthened in August, with the token gaining nearly 50% during the month. This surge is largely driven by increased trading activity and renewed buying interest. In fact, Hyperliquid's market share within onchain derivatives has expanded significantly, with the platform now controlling 54.5% of the perpetuals market.
The $60-$62 region was recently broken above, leading to an acceleration toward the $76 area. With price holding comfortably above major exponential moving averages (EMAs), the technical structure remains strongly bullish. However, HYPE now faces significant resistance between $76 and $76.87, with a decisive four-hour close above this zone potentially attracting fresh momentum from traders.
Rising open interest is another key indicator behind Hyperliquid's recent advance. Total open interest has climbed from approximately $1.5 billion in May to above $3 billion as of August 21. This increase in leverage can amplify price movements, but excessive exposure may trigger rapid liquidations if HYPE loses support.
