Hyperscale Data Center Halts Bitcoin Mining Amid Noise Complaints

Hyperscale Data Center in Dowagiac, Michigan has ceased its Bitcoin mining operations effective September 2. The move comes after months of complaints from residents about excessive noise levels.

Regis Elrod, a homeowner across the street from the facility, described the previous noise level as 'very, very loud, uncomfortably loud.' She also mentioned that the constant hum made it difficult for her to have conversations with friends and neighbors. The facility's owner, Hyperscale, had previously implemented temporary night shutdowns in an attempt to reduce the noise levels.

However, residents were skeptical about the sincerity of these measures, perceiving them as merely a gesture to appease the local community. Billy Finn, another homeowner across from the center, stated that he 'kind of perceived it that they were just trying to appease the people on the street.' He added, 'They were kind of forced to do something to start showing some type of consideration for the people on the street.'

Hyperscale has offered fair market value and moving expenses to residents in an effort to relocate them. However, many are hesitant to accept these offers, citing concerns about the future of their homes and the potential loss of property value.
