Hyperscale Data Sells $43M in Bitcoin to Fund Michigan Data Center Expansion
Hyperscale Data has made a strategic move to monetize part of its Bitcoin holdings. The company sold approximately 685 Bitcoin for around $43 million in cash, which will be used mainly to fund the expansion of its Michigan data center and reduce debt by about $30 million.
The sale marks one of the clearest bets yet on how a Bitcoin-heavy balance sheet should behave when the money is needed elsewhere. Hyperscale Data retained about 275 Bitcoin after the transaction, indicating that it still sees significant value in the asset.
Milton 'Todd' Ault III, Executive Chairman of Hyperscale Data, stated that 'Bitcoin has been an important part of Hyperscale Data's strategy and we expect it to remain an important part of our strategy going forward.' The company intends to continue mining Bitcoin and rebuild its position over time.
The move is significant beyond Hyperscale Data itself, as more AI-adjacent and mining companies hold Bitcoin on their balance sheets. The way they choose to monetize these assets sets a template for other treasury-holding firms when infrastructure costs collide with debt pressure.
