IBIT Dominates Bitcoin ETF Options Market with Record Liquidity
The cryptocurrency market has seen significant growth in recent years, and Bitcoin ETF options have become increasingly popular among investors. However, not all Bitcoin ETFs are created equal when it comes to liquidity and market maturity.
Fidelity's FBTC option contracts have been trading on the market since November 2024, but they still trail behind IBIT in terms of popularity. On September 11, 2026, only 2,310 FBTC option contracts changed hands, compared to the massive $2.7 billion to $3.0 billion in notional value traded in IBIT options.
The disparity in liquidity between IBIT and FBTC is staggering. While IBIT controls around 75% to 80% of total Bitcoin spot ETF options trading volume, FBTC holds only 11%. This has resulted in a significant difference in bid-ask spreads, with FBTC having a spread of $0.45 compared to IBIT's $0.02.
The market maturity of the cryptocurrency space is evident in the increasing demand for institutional investors. The call-to-put ratio for IBIT options has compressed from 4.3:1 at launch to 1.8:1 by December 2025, indicating a shift towards hedging strategies. Additionally, the aggregate Bitcoin options open interest has exceeded $60 billion in futures open interest since July 2025.
