IBM and Qedma Achieve Quantum Advantage in Physics Modeling
IBM and Israeli quantum software startup Qedma have achieved a significant breakthrough in physics modeling using a quantum computer. They successfully simulated Hamiltonian dynamics within tilted-field Ising models with 95-97% accuracy on magnetization observables.
The team used Qedma's QESEM (Quantum Error Suppression and Error Mitigation) software, which suppresses and corrects errors in quantum computations to produce reliable outputs. The software was tested on IBM's most advanced processors, including the 127-qubit Eagle and the 133-qubit Heron.
The success of QESEM has implications beyond physics modeling, as the same error mitigation techniques could make cryptographic attacks feasible. Every major blockchain relies on cryptographic assumptions that quantum computers could eventually challenge, such as SHA-256 hashing and ECDSA signatures used by Bitcoin and Ethereum.
