IMF Clarifies El Salvador's Growing Bitcoin Holdings
El Salvador's Bitcoin stash has grown significantly since June 2025, but according to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), this increase came from private donations, not public sector purchases.
The IMF clarified that all additional BTC added to official holdings since June 2025 came from these documented private contributions, with no further buying expected beyond what has been recorded.
This explains how El Salvador's Bitcoin balance continued to rise despite earlier discussions requiring the public sector's Bitcoin holdings to remain unchanged.
The country's official BTC tracker showed 7,764.37 BTC at the time of writing, a significant jump from previous numbers, with over 1,000 additional BTC added in November and an average daily increase of one BTC since then.
