The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has clarified that El Salvador's growing Bitcoin reserves have come from private donations, not public sector purchases.

This clears up a long-standing concern over the country's adherence to IMF agreements, which required limiting public-sector accumulation of BTC.

The IMF revealed that all Bitcoin added to official holdings since June 2025 came from these private contributions, with no further buying beyond documented donations expected.

El Salvador's official BTC tracker shows a balance of 7,764.37 BTC at the time of writing, which jumped by 1,000 BTC in November and continues to receive one BTC per day.

The IMF did not disclose the identities or amounts contributed by these private donors.
