IMF: El Salvador Ends Public-Funded Bitcoin Buying
El Salvador's government-funded Bitcoin accumulation strategy has come to an end. According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), El Salvador has not used public funds to buy BTC since June 27, 2025, with all acquired Bitcoin coming from private donations.
The IMF reached a staff-level agreement on combined 2nd and 3rd reviews of the country's 40-month Extended Fund Facility arrangement. This agreement may pave the way for El Salvador to receive roughly $140 million in new IMF financing.
This development could lead to reduced demand and adoption support for crypto markets, as traditional funding becomes a priority for the government.
