IMF Halts Bitcoin Reserve Growth for El Salvador Amid EFF Reviews
El Salvador's Bitcoin reserve growth is coming to an end under its financial aid arrangement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), according to a recent statement from the IMF. The fund has confirmed that donations fueled the nation's recent Bitcoin reserve growth, and no public resources were used.
The agreement comes as part of the second and third reviews of El Salvador's Extended Fund Facility (EFF), which offers approximately $1.4 billion in funding. As a result of the review, the country will benefit from around $140 million more in financing if the Executive Board approves.
The IMF has stated that there will be no further increase in the amount of Bitcoin being accumulated beyond those that have been recorded with donations. This decision is part of the fund's efforts to enhance supervision and regulation of digital assets, including Bitcoin.
