IMF Says El Salvador's Bitcoin Buildup Came from Donations
El Salvador's Bitcoin stash has seen significant growth, with its holdings rising by over 1,500 BTC. As of now, the country's online dashboard lists more than 7,764 BTC, a substantial increase from June 2025's tally of approximately 6,224 BTC.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) recently reviewed El Salvador's loan program and found that the majority of this growth came from private donations rather than taxpayer-financed buys. The IMF noted that documents from the government indicate the Bitcoin added after the prior review came from these contributions.
Despite the IMF's findings, El Salvador continues to present itself as an active buyer. The National Bitcoin Office stated it had 'just bought more Bitcoin' on August 28 and repeated its long-running line: 'One BTC per day, every day.'
