IMF Sheds Light on El Salvador's Bitcoin Donors, But Keeps Them Anonymous
El Salvador's Bitcoin mystery has deepened after the International Monetary Fund (IMF) revealed that private donations, not public funds, were used to accumulate its recent Bitcoin reserves.
The IMF confirmed on September 3rd that the country provided documentation showing private donations rather than government resources were behind the accumulation. However, it did not publicly identify those donors.
This revelation is significant because El Salvador's Bitcoin holdings continued to rise despite commitments made under its $1.4 billion Extended Fund Facility with the IMF.
El Salvador's authorities provided documentation verifying that the accumulation reflected private donations, and the IMF confirmed that no public resources were used. It added that no further Bitcoin accumulation beyond the documented donations is expected.
