IMF Verifies El Salvador's Bitcoin Holdings Originated from Private Donations
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has confirmed that El Salvador did not use public funds to acquire Bitcoin, instead relying on private donations.
This clarification comes after concerns were raised in November 2025 when it was announced that El Salvador had acquired 1,090 BTC valued at $100 million. The IMF stated that all Bitcoin additions since June 27, 2025 came from private contributions and not public funds.
The country's Bitcoin treasury currently holds approximately 7,764 BTC, which is worth around $628 million at current prices. This news arrives as El Salvador prepares to receive $140 million in disbursements pending IMF board approval.
