India Urged to Develop Rupee-Pegged Stablecoin Amid US Dollar Dependence Concerns
Binance's APAC Head SB Seker argues that India needs its own rupee-pegged stablecoin to reduce dependence on the US dollar.
This would allow Indian users and institutions to hedge against dollar volatility, rather than being exposed to currency swings beyond their control.
The majority of global stablecoins, including USDT and USDC, are pegged to the US dollar due to its deep liquidity and settlement infrastructure.
An INR stablecoin could enable direct rupee-to-rupee settlements for remittances into India, bypassing the need for USD conversion and reducing costs.
