Indian Athletes Train on High-Tech 'Smart Track' Ahead of Asian Games 2026
The Sports Authority of India's National Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru is hosting a national coaching camp for Indian middle- and long-distance track athletes preparing for the Asian Games 2026.
The camp, sanctioned by the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS), features eight top athletes, including Krishan Kumar, Avinash Sable, Aadarsh Ram, Supriya B, Thowfeeq N, Parul Chaudhary, Manju Rani, and Priyanka.
The athletes are training on a specialized 'smart track' that allows coaches to capture real-time performance data during training. This includes speed data, split timings, stride length, and stride frequency.
The smart track was installed in 2024 and has been used by elite athletes since then. It can be installed on any existing synthetic track by embedding magnetic gates beneath the surface, allowing coaches to analyze different phases of a run.
