Indian Crypto Market Sees 20% Surge in Spot Trading Volumes Amid Bitcoin Rally
India's cryptocurrency market has experienced a significant surge in spot trading volumes as Bitcoin rallied. The sharp increase in volume, exceeding 20%, was seen on major exchanges including CoinDCX, CoinSwitch, WazirX, Mudrex, and Giottus.
The rally began when US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced plans to increase the maximum size of certain long-dated bond buybacks. This triggered an upswing that forced traders to liquidate billions in short positions, which in turn accelerated Bitcoin's advance.
According to CoinDCX's Co-founder and CEO Sumit Gupta, the company's spot trading volume rose from around $5-6 million to approximately $13 million between August 19 and August 21. On Mudrex, spot volumes went up 20 percent week-on-week, reflecting higher engagement from traders looking to participate in the momentum.
Industry insiders remain cautious about the rally's long-term impact on Bitcoin price movements, with some warning that a pullback towards the $65,000 zone is possible if activity is driven by leverage or reactions to a single headline.
