Indian Crypto Market Sees Surge in Activity as Bitcoin Rallies
The Indian cryptocurrency market has seen a surge in activity following Bitcoin's recent rally. According to reports, major exchanges such as CoinDCX, CoinSwitch, WazirX, Mudrex, and Giottus have all experienced increased trading volumes.
CoinDCX saw its spot trading volume rise from around 5 million-6 million USDT to approximately $13 million between August 19 and August 21. The company's co-founder and CEO, Sumit Gupta, stated that Bitcoin trading volume rose from roughly 300,000-700,000 during the earlier period to $2 million on August 21.
Mudrex reported a 20% week-on-week increase in spot volumes, while WazirX saw daily futures volumes increase almost sevenfold between August 16 and August 22. Giottus reported a 22% increase in spot volume and a 31% rise in futures volume.
The rally is attributed to several factors, including the US Treasury Secretary's announcement of increased maximum size for certain long-dated Treasury buybacks, developments around US cryptocurrency regulation, and institutional demand. The CLARITY Act and GENIUS Act are expected to be finalized before November, which has contributed to the surge in activity.
However, industry participants remain cautious about the rally's durability, with some warning that a pullback towards $65,000 could occur if the move is driven mainly by leverage or a single headline.
