India's Crypto Boom Leaves Government with Zero Bitcoin Holdings
India's government has zero disclosed Bitcoin holdings, despite having millions of crypto users. This discrepancy has raised questions about the country's approach to Bitcoin and its potential benefits.
Unlike many other countries, India hasn't established a strategic Bitcoin reserve. The main reason for this is that the government hasn't identified a clear need for Bitcoin as a sovereign reserve asset. India's current reserve management approach focuses on maintaining adequate liquidity, safety, and returns, with foreign assets and gold dominating its reserves.
The RBI has taken a cautious stance towards holding a highly volatile asset like Bitcoin, considering price volatility and other inherent risks. The government believes that holding such an asset could create additional financial risks for taxpayers.
