India's Cryptocurrency Traders Face Bank Account Risks on Binance P2P
For Indian cryptocurrency traders using Binance's peer-to-peer (P2P) marketplace, selling USDT can seem like a routine transaction. They receive Indian rupees through UPI or bank transfer after matching with a buyer, and once they confirm the money has arrived, they release the held-in-escrow USDT.
However, what happens if those rupees originated from money connected to a cybercrime committed before the transaction? This concern has been raised repeatedly on Reddit's r/CryptoIndia community, where users have described bank liens, account freezes, and lengthy attempts to establish that they were simply counterparties in a legitimate crypto trade.
Binance acknowledges this risk, stating that P2P sellers may have their bank accounts frozen after dealing with buyers whose funds are subsequently associated with scams. The exchange advises sellers to preserve transaction records, contact their bank, and cooperate with local authorities if an account is frozen.
