Indonesia Advances Stablecoin and Tokenization Rules Amid Global Market Growth
Indonesia's Financial Services Authority (OJK) is moving forward with rules for stablecoins and real-world asset tokenization, according to Adi Budiarso, OJK's Chief Executive for Financial Sector Technology Innovation.
The push comes as crypto assets take on a broader role in financial markets, extending beyond investment and trading into transactions, decentralized finance, stablecoins, and tokenized assets.
Stablecoins are among the areas being brought under a clearer regulatory framework. OJK plans to treat them as transactional instruments, not payment tools, while coordinating with Bank Indonesia.
The IDRP stablecoin, developed as a rupiah-pegged digital asset, is backed by rupiah reserves and has completed the sandbox process. The global stablecoin market exceeded $320 billion in Q1 2026, with fiat-backed stablecoins accounting for the majority.
OJK is also finalizing regulations for RWA tokenization, which allows assets or economic rights linked to real-world assets to be represented digitally using blockchain infrastructure.
