Infantino Faces Backlash Over World Cup Plan
FIFA President Gianni Infantino is facing intense pressure after three powerful confederations accused him of committing a 'fundamental breach of trust'.
The Asian Football Confederation (AFC), CONCACAF, and the UEFA have expressed their discontent with Infantino's abandoned $20 billion plan to sell an interest in the World Cup.
According to the confederations, Infantino's actions represent a serious issue regarding governance within FIFA. They argue that soccer is not the personal property of FIFA's president or even of FIFA itself, but rather belongs collectively to its players, supporters, clubs, national associations, and governing institutions.
The three confederations have also held initial talks about organizing tournaments among themselves as UEFA continues to boycott FIFA competitions stemming from the abandoned private equity plan.
