Infinite Money Bug Crashes: Stocks Plummet as Crypto Prices Fall

The 'infinite money bug' that fueled the stock market for years has finally broken. This phenomenon, which saw public companies buying cryptocurrency and using it as a growth engine, relied on a self-sustaining cycle of issuing shares, buying more assets, and attracting speculators.

At its peak in 2024, MicroStrategy's shares rose by around 3000% compared to the end of 2019. This success spawned over 150 imitators, with about 80% of them betting on aggressive Bitcoin accumulation.

The model's weakness was exposed when cryptocurrencies peaked and then declined in fall 2025. The decrease in crypto values reduced collateral for loans, forcing companies to sell their assets and putting pressure on the market.
