Institutions Eye Trillion-Dollar Bitcoin Allocation
Institutional investors may soon pour trillions of dollars into Bitcoin, according to Bitwise CIO Matt Hougan. He predicts that over the next decade, pension funds, insurance companies, and sovereign wealth funds could allocate a significant portion of their assets into the cryptocurrency, viewing it as a mainstream financial asset.
Hougan estimates that a 1% allocation from institutions controlling $100-$200 trillion in assets could support a Bitcoin price of around $1.3 million by 2035. This growth is expected to be driven by easier access through spot Bitcoin ETFs and a shift from corporate buyers to large institutional capital.
Hougan notes that Bitcoin's expansion parallels gold's market growth, and that institutional money will be key to Bitcoin's rise from a $2 trillion to a $20 trillion market. He highlights the importance of institutional investors in driving adoption and increasing legitimacy for the cryptocurrency.
