Institutions Pour More Money into Bitcoin Despite Q2 Price Drop
The Bitcoin price fell by 14% in Q2 this year, but institutions continued to add positions, according to data from institutional adoption reports. The total ETF holdings decreased by 6.6%, while institutional holdings increased by 7.5%. This bullish divergence indicates that smart money is viewing the current price as an entry point and continuing to accumulate at the bottom.
The Abu Dhabi Sovereign Fund, Wells Fargo, and JPMorgan were among the top institutions that added significant positions in Q2. Wells Fargo and JPMorgan both added over 10,000 BTC each in a single quarter. This confirms that institutions view current prices as attractive entry points.
Ameriprise, a mainstream US wealth management and financial services company with over $1.7 trillion in assets under management, also entered the market by allocating over 100 BTC for the first time. Other new entrants include hedge funds and investment management companies such as Context Capital Management and Compass Rose Asset Management.
