Institutions Unite for Bitcoin Network Security Fund
Nine major Bitcoin institutions have formed the Bitcoin Security Consortium to fund network security. The group includes Anchorage Digital, ARK Invest, BlackRock, Block, Blockstream, Coinbase, Fidelity Digital Assets, Galaxy and Strategy, with combined funding commitments of $15 million over three years.
The initiative is being coordinated by Brink, a nonprofit supporting Bitcoin's open-source developers, with Executive Director Mike Schmidt managing the Consortium's day-to-day work as a volunteer. The focus is not just on improving Bitcoin today but also preparing for potential threats that may still be years away.
The Quantum Challenge has emerged as the group's main funding priority, particularly post-quantum cryptography. This involves supporting developers and researchers already working on solutions rather than deciding how Bitcoin itself should evolve. The Consortium will not have authority over Bitcoin's protocol.
