Ionic Digital Soars on Nasdaq Debut After Shifting Away from Bitcoin Mining
Ionic Digital, listed on the Nasdaq as IOND, experienced a significant increase in its share price during its first day of trading. The company's stock opened at $50 and closed near $63, representing a gain of around 25-26% from the opening price and approximately 19% above the reference price set by the exchange.
This strong debut valued Ionic Digital at an implied market value of about $2.75 billion to $2.8 billion, ranking among the most substantial direct listings in recent years. The company's shift away from cryptocurrency production towards leasing powered capacity for AI and high-performance computing workloads has been a key driver of its growth.
Ionic Digital was established in January 2024 to take control of Celsius Mining's assets, including equipment, power infrastructure, cash reserves, and bitcoin holdings, as part of the crypto lender's court-supervised restructuring. The company assumed full operational oversight of its sites and began a deliberate shift towards leasing powered capacity for AI workloads.
