IonQ Surges on New Revenue Guidance and Quantum Computing Breakthroughs
IonQ's stock price surged today, rising 12.4% at one point and currently up 8.1%. The company announced several key developments that contributed to its share price increase.
One of the major announcements was IonQ's new revenue guidance for 2026, which is expected to be between $450 million and $460 million. This is a significant increase from the previously stated range of $280 million to $290 million, and includes contributions from the SkyWater acquisition, which closed in July.
IonQ also unveiled its sixth-generation quantum computer, Superion 256, which features chips produced by SkyWater's production line. Orders for this 256-qubit system are now open, with deliveries scheduled to begin in 2027. A 10,000-qubit successor is currently in development.
In addition to these announcements, IonQ published a research paper that presented an integrated system framework capable of forging digital signatures for Bitcoin in just 26 days using a 20,000-qubit system. However, it's worth noting that actually delivering such a machine is still several years away.
