Iran Sees Crypto Adoption Soar Amid Sanctions-Driven Banking Constrictions

Iran's shift towards cryptocurrency payments has gained significant traction in recent times. The country's economy is facing increasing pressure from U.S. sanctions, making it difficult for Iran to engage in cross-border transactions using traditional banking routes.

The Iranian central bank has relaxed currency controls, allowing exporters to receive Tether and Bitcoin through local exchanges. This move has allowed entities with unrepatriated funds to utilize some portion of their export revenue through alternative means.

Foreign exchange houses remain the most popular method for settling foreign exchange-related obligations in Iran. However, the ability to settle a portion of these obligations using cryptocurrency represents an additional option for exporters.

The growth of crypto adoption in Iran has been evident, with $10 billion in activity reported. Tether (USDT) dominates this market, particularly through TRON (TRX), which offers low fees supporting frequent transfers.
