Iran Tensions Send Crude Oil Prices Soaring Toward $100
Crude oil prices have surged due to escalating tensions between the US and Iran. This has led to concerns about prolonged supply disruptions in the Middle East, which could drive up prices further.
The Brent crude price is currently trading near $98 a barrel, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) is above $93. Despite this, there are signs that high prices are already curbing demand. Reuters reported Brent futures at $97.49 a barrel on Tuesday, up 0.5%, while WTI gained 1.6% to $92.92.
The Iran conflict has added a geopolitical premium to crude oil prices. Iran has threatened further retaliation and disruption around the Strait of Hormuz, which could exacerbate supply disruptions. However, OPEC+ has announced that it will maintain production levels at September's requirements, rather than increasing output as previously expected.
