Iran's New Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei to Maintain Crypto Ecosystem

Mojtaba Khamenei, 56, has been named the new supreme leader of Iran by the Assembly of Experts. This marks the first father-to-son succession in Iranian history and is seen as a hardline continuity signal rather than an opening for negotiation.

Khamenei's appointment came days after his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was killed in US-Israeli airstrikes on Feb 28. The IRGC has pledged full obedience to the new leader.

The appointment of Mojtaba Khamenei increases the likelihood that Iran's cryptocurrency ecosystem will remain intact under his leadership. This ecosystem reached $7.78 billion in value last year and functions as both a civilian financial lifeline and a state sanctions-evasion tool.
